The need for guidance and counselling for students arises from the changes taking place in every sphere of life. Academic stress, poor academic performance, tough competition, vast and varied educational and livelihood opportunities and the resulting confusion in choosing livelihood options, ever-growing, changing and complex world of work, burnout, suicide, anger, violence, drug abuse, child abuse, crime, lifestyle changes, divorced, single parents, etc. are some of the concerns for which school students need guidance and counselling services. The aim of guidance and counselling services is to help each student grow as an individual, make choices and set goals based on his or her strengths. Taking into account the special needs and requirements of students belonging to different social, economic and cultural backgrounds, guidance and counselling helps students to engage in the educational process and, thus, students benefit from curricular experiences.
